Proximus Launches LTE Network in Brussels:

Belgium based mobile network, Proximus has become the first operator to have activated LTE coverage in the capital city, Brussels, which is also home to the European Commission.

Proximus launched its LTE network in Belgium in November 2012. Up to now that had not been possible in Brussels due to local regulations from the city council limiting base station emissions.

 Currently, 25% of all data traffic takes place in the Brussels region.

The new standard of the Brussels government is certainly a first step in the right direction in terms of rolling out the 4G network and maintaining the quality of the existing 2G and 3G networks.

Thanks to the amended ordinance of the Brussels Capital Region, the roll-out of the 4G network can now start: today, Proximus was able to activate some of its antennas in Brussels based on the current standard of 3 volts per meter. With today's launch, the 4G network in Brussels reaches 20% of the population. As soon as the Brussels government publishes the implementing decrees, Proximus can roll out the 4G network further under the new standard of 6 volts per meter.
