Morocco based mobile network operator, Medi Telecom (Meditel) says that it plans to invest EUR350 million (US$480 million) in network upgrades over the next three years.
The company is aiming to retain its second place in the market, which is is nearly tied with Inwi and will be deploying 3G coverage to all Moroccan cities.
It aims to expand 3G coverage from around half the population to 99% by the end of 2015.
The company has been testing a migration to a Single RAN based on equipment supplied by Huawei and Ericsson. Tests were carried out in Essaouira and Taroudant, and will be extended to Casablanca, Tangiers and Marrakech by this April.
Once completed, the company will be able to operate both its GSM and 3G networks on a single Radio Access Network platform.
The company also aims to increase the 3G mobile data download speeds to 42Mbps by 2015.
