Apple could be facing a lawsuit from a US University that claims the company willfully infringed on one of its patents.
The Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF), a division of the University of Wisconsin has filed the lawsuit, claiming infringement of United States Patent No. 5,781,752 (the "'752 patent"), which covers semiconductor architecture.
The patent is claimed to be infringed in Apple's A7 chip, which is used in the iPhone 5s and iPad Mini.
The lawsuit claims that Apple used the technique covered by the patent in full knowledge that it is a patented development. Indeed, Apple has filed one or more patent applications of its own that cite the '752 patent as relevant prior art.
The WARF is seeking the usual damages and an order blocking Apple from infringing the patent.
