Kenyan Networks Warned to Improve Services or Lose Licenses:

Kenya's ICT Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has warned the country's mobile networks that they face losing their operating licenses if they do not improve the quality of their service.
The warning followed a recent survey by the telecoms regulator that found none of the networks had met minimum standards, and threats to Safaricom not to renew its license later this year.
"The line on the issue of regulatory obligations is very clear. You comply or you are out of the business," the Minister said, "If you come in, you come to a regulatory environment and you play according to the rules."
"Our responsibility is to ensure that the people of Kenya receive quality service. It has nothing to do with us loving or hating them and it is as clear as that," he added.
Safaricom says it was optimistic that things will improve following investment in the network.
