Apple's Chinese handset assembly partner, Foxconn is reported to have shipped
around 1.4 million of Apple's iPhone 5S to China Mobile ahead of its sales
launch this Friday.
China Mobile has been taking pre-orders for the Apple smartphones since
Christmas Day having finally signed a long expected agreement to sell the
handsets.
"Shipping one million or more iPhones to a single carrier per month is
substantial. But we have limited visibility beyond this month as Apple hasn't
informed Foxconn of the volume for the next shipment to China Mobile," an
unnamed source told the Wall Street Journal.
There has been expectations that China Mobile could sell anything from a
million to three million iPhones per month, but more recent analysts have
started to question the viability of such high sales volumes.
China Mobile already has a large iPhone user base, as customers bought models
that could rely on Wi-Fi hotspots for mobile data access as the mobile network
was not compatible with older iPhone models.
