India's Election Commission Drops Google Plan to Improve Election Information:

India's Election Commission says that it wont be pursuing an agreement with Google which had been aimed at improving online information ahead of the national elections.
There had been concerns raised about the deal with a USA based company in light of the recent spying revelations against the USA and allegations that US spies were routinely hacking into tech firms.
In a brief statement the Commission said that "Google made a presentation to the Commission for electoral look up services for citizens to help in the efforts of the Commission for better electoral information services. However, after due consideration, the Commission has decided not to pursue the proposal any further,"
This is the second time that a project proposed by Google has been declined by Government agencies.
Google responded saying that it is "unfortunate that our discussion with the Election Commission of India to change the way users access their electoral information that is publicly available through an online voter look up tool, were not fruitful."
This is the latest in a growing number of technology deals that are thought to have been lost by US firms following the whistelblower revelations about NSA spying.
