MTN Ghana subscribers have suffered ‘enormous credit losses’ when trying to top-up their accounts, local news agency Ghana Business News reports. According to the article, MTN has acknowledged the problem, which was reportedly due to technical issues, by stating that ‘there has been a system challenge causing some subscribers to lose their airtime credit’, and that its technical team is currently working to ‘rectify the issue’.
Further, the cellco assured its subscribers that all the missing credit will be replaced in due course. Industry regulator the National Communications Authority (NCA) is yet to comment on the issue.
As previously reported, earlier this month MTN Ghana commenced the deployment of a Radio Access network (RAN) upgrade project across the country, after the the company pledged to invest GHS105 million (USD52.34 million) to improve the quality of its network by upgrading and replacing obsolete equipment. The move came after the NCA imposed a GHS900,000 fine on five mobile network operators for providing poor network quality to their subscribers in the Northern, Volta, Ashanti, Upper West and Upper East Regions.
