Kenya's President Uhuru Kenyatta has ordered the telecoms regulator and the mobile networks to work together to ensure that no unregistered SIM card is in use in the country.
The President said national security was paramount and nothing would be allowed to compromise it.
"Move with speed in ensuring that the unregistered SIM cards are disabled completely. We do not want unscrupulous people to use them in perpetrating criminal activities," the President said.
There has been pressure on the mobile networks to disable unregistered SIM cards, and the CEO's of the four mobile networks face a criminal investigation over the matter.
